Before you ask

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes. Your policy must cover trekking up to the highest altitude of your trek (6,000 m to be safe) and helicopter evacuation. We check every policy before departure.

  • Most nationalities get a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport: USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days. You can fill in the form online before you fly.

  • A 20% deposit reserves your place. The balance is due 60 days before departure, by card or bank transfer. Prices include all permits, guides, porters, teahouses and meals on the trek.

  • You can change dates for free up to 60 days before departure. Cancellations after that follow a sliding scale, which is why we ask everyone to have cancellation cover.

  • Absolutely. About half our trekkers come alone. You’ll share a twin room with another solo trekker of the same gender, or pay a supplement for your own room.

  • Not straight from the tap. Teahouses sell boiled water, and we give every trekker purification tablets so you don’t need plastic bottles.

  • Tipping is customary and much appreciated. A guide is usually tipped USD 10–15 per day and a porter USD 8–10 per day, shared by the group at the end of the trek.
